Spotlight on "Student Success 2002" - Nov/Dec 2002

Jennifer Ballinger, current CSP pre-medical peer advisor
Jennifer participated in the Minority International Research Training Program (M.I.R.T.) in Summer 2001 in Beijing, China. She did psychology research on parental disciplinary strategies. While in China she had time to sight see in Beijing and travel to Shanghai and Chengde. Yes, she saw the Great Wall! She also participated in the Minority Medical Education Program (M.M.E.P.) in summer 2002 in Chicago, Illinois. While in the program, she shadowed an anesthesiologist, pediatrician, and family practice physician. The required classes and workshops featured guest speakers from various professions that allowed her to network with medical students and Deans of Admissions from different medical schools. Jennifer is majoring in Biopsychology and will graduate April 2003. She is an also a member of the Black Pre Medical Association.

Michael Green, current CSP pre-medical peer advisor
Michael is majoring in Biology with a minor in Art History. He is a very eclectic individual with interests ranging from medicine to poetry. He is the Vice-President of the U of M Poetry Slam Club. He has volunteered at George Washington University Hospital in D.C., in the post-anesthesia recovery unit. Michael would like to take a year off before going to medical school and work for the National Institute of Health (N.I.H.), doing cardiovascular research. He will be graduating in April 2003. Michael plans to do M.M.E.P. this coming summer at Columbia University. Michael is also a member of the Black Pre Medical Association and a member of Alpha Phi Alpha, Epsilon Chapter.
