About Merle
Brenner
A member of the ELI staff since 1999, Merle is a speech and language pathologist with a specific interest in the pronunciation issues of non-native speakers. She has served as an instructor for ELI pronunciation courses and has facilitated the ELI’s Speaking Clinic, providing short-term individual and small group pronunciation services to students who have been referred after taking other ELI classes or workshops. Beginning with a focus on optimal functional pronunciation of field specific vocabulary and then integrating critical issues of stress, rhythm and intonation, she engages students in the task of contextualizing and generalizing these new pronunciation skills and strategies into effective academic presentations and communication environments.
