Marshall M. Weinberg Distinguished Visiting Professor Endowment

Marshall M. Weinberg Distinguished Visiting Professors of Philosophy join the Department for one term each academic year. Weinberg Visiting Professors are researchers who work in areas central to the rational understanding of the nature of knowledge, mind, language and value: epistemology, philosophy of mind, philosophy of language, philosophy of science, and ethics. In light of the interactions between these fields and other disciplines -- for example, cognitive science, neuroscience, evolutionary biology, political theory, and law -- appointees pursuing interdisciplinary work are welcome. Weinberg Visiting Professors may also be younger scholars whose work is of unusual interest. In addition to their teaching responsibilities, Weinberg visitors deliver a public lecture. Martin Davies, Patrick Grim, Carl Hoefer, Adam Morton, Debra Satz, Daniel Stoljar, Scott Sturgeon, Charles Travis, and Ted Warfield have joined the faculty as Weinberg Distinguished Visitors. The endowment is a unique resource, insuring that Michigan students gain first-hand exposure to new ideas affecting our discipline.
