Spotlight on "Student Success 2004" - April 2004

Brittany Carter, CSP Junior,
concentrating in Biopsychology and pursuing premedicine. She is a member of the Black Pre-Medical Association (BPMA). Brittany assisted the BPMA team in organizing the Pre-Medical Health Conference on January 10, 2004. She was accepted to be a participant of the Minority International Training Program (MIRT) and will be conducting research in China this summer.

Kurston Cook, CSP first-year student,
was chosen to take part in the Community Leadership Scholar Program at Brown University during the Summer. He is an active participant of The Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (UROP) and was recently chosen to participate in the Public Policy and Leadership Conference at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.

Tiffany Welch, CSP Junior,
was chosen to be a Minority International Research Training (MIRT) program participant. She will be a Research Trainee this summer in Kingston, Jamaica. Tiffany is majoring in Biology and is also an active participant in UROP.

May 2004 Graduating Seniors

Lauren Hale, CSP Senior,
Lauren is our Pre-Business Peer Advsior. She is concentrating in Marketing and Organizational Behavior in the Business School. Upon graduation, she will be working for American Express in New York as a marketing analyst. She has also applied to law schools. Lauren is the President of the National Association of Black Accountant/Minority Business Students. She is an active member of the Black Student Union and she still finds time to mentor elementary students once a week with the Volunteers Involved Ever Week (VIEW) under Project SERVE.

Kristen M. Harris, CSP Senior,
Kristen is one of our Pre-Med Peer Advisors She will graduate with a B.A. degree in African- American Studies (CAAS) and Biochemistry. She is also busy writing an honors thesis in African- American Studies. Thus far, she has been accepted into five medical schools including the University of Michigan. She is still trying to decide where she will attend in the fall. Kristen is a member of the Black Student Union and she is a Minority Peer Advisor in South Quad.

Dayna J. LePlatte, CSP Senior,
Dayna is one of our Pre-Med Peer Advisors. She will graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Cellular & Molecular Biology. She has been accepted into five medical schools and is still undecided about which medical school she will be attending. She is a Resident Advisor for the Women in Science and Engineering Program, is a Recruitment Chair and Academic Excellence Chair for the Black Pre Med Association and still finds time to sing in the Michigan Gospel Chorale.

Alumni Corner

Aurora Torres, CSP 2003 Graduate.
Aurora earned a B.A. in Economics and Political Science. She is now earning her Master’s at Harvard University, John F. Kennedy School of Government. She would like to go into Public Policy and Urban Development.
