Graduate Student Writing Clinic

The Graduate Student Writing Clinic, which is free, offers discussion, diagnosis, and guided self-help with writing for students whose first language is not English. The writing lab is organized with the idea of encouraging critical independence in written English tasks, and approaches these tasks with the idea that learning writing skills is a long-term process. The Writing Clinic is a supplement to ELI writing courses, not an alternative to them

On the schedule page, select an OPEN time and be sure to provide some alternatives to your first choice. We will try to reply to your request within 24 hours.

If you need to cancel an appointment, it is very important that you give us at least 24 hours notice where possible by emailing writinglabsignup@umich.edu or by telephoning the instructor at 734.615.9639. If you provide us with sufficient notice, we are able to offer your appointment to another student.

Students can only reserve one time/session per week without the writing instructor's permission. In order to ensure that we are able to help as many students as possible, we ask that you make a maximum of five appointments per semester, unless you receive special permission to exceed this limit from the writing lab instructor.

The location of the Writing Clinic is 500 East Washington Street in downtown Ann Arbor (the English Language Institute). Report to the front reception and they will direct you to the clinic.
