About John Swales John's primary research interests lie in written and spoken academic discourse. These interests are closely connected with his work in enhancing the advanced academic literacy of graduate students, both international and domestic. Although he retired in 2007, he remains active. In 2009, the University of Michigan Press published Abstracts and the Writing of Abstracts and Telling a Research Story: Writing a Literature Review (both with Chris Feak), as well as Incidents in an Educational Life: A Memoir (of sorts).
