Department affiliates may obtain keys for offices, laboratories and central facilities. Key requests can be made by emailing the Physics Technical Services Office.
Please note: All students must have permission from the responsible faculty member/supervisor to obtain a key request or there will be a delay while the faculty member/supervisor is contacted.
To obtain a key request, the faculty member/supervisor must send email to physics.facilities@umich.edu with the following information:
Name
Affiliation (i.e. Student, Staff, Faculty)

Once key requests are ready, you will receive an email stating that the request form is ready for pick-up in 1427/1425 Randall Lab.
If you are requesting a lab key, please follow this procedure:
The Physics Department is now requiring anyone that will be working in laboratories to take the Comprehensive Laboratory Safety Training course provided by OSEH before receiving a key request to the labs. If you have already taken the course, please bring Kandy Styrk your certificate that was given upon course completion or give Kandy your UMID number to verify with OSEH. If you have not taken this course, it is offered a few times a month through the University and twice a year through the Physics Department. Because the wait is usually a month or so, Kandy has the presentation that you can view, so you can obtain your keys now.
Steps to follow for lab key requests:
1. Sign up http://www.osehtraining.umich.edu/osehtraining/. The class you need to register for is called Comprehensive Laboratory Safety Training.
2. Once you are registered, please email your confirmation to Kandy Styrk .
3. Come to Kandy Styrk's office, 1427 Randall Lab or Joe in 1425 Randall Lab and they will set you up in the loading dock area to view this. (Plan on 1/2 hour)
4. After viewing presentation, a key request will be given to you.
5. You need to attend the class for which you signed up.
6. Kandy Styrk will follow up with OSEH after each class to verify the completion.
After Departmental approval by Kandy Styrk in Technical Services, take the form to the Key Office which is located at 525 Church Street, outside of the Church Street Parking Structure, along with a $10.00 deposit per key. Keys must be returned to the Key Office when leaving the Department, so please keep your receipt for refund of the deposit.
