Spring/Summer Scholarships

Spring and Summer Terms

The LSA International Opportunity Scholarship Program

The College of Literature, Science, and the Arts provides up to $2000 in support for Spring or Summer internships, research projects, or University of Michigan programs abroad for LSA undergraduates. These Opportunity Scholarships are designed to provide support to those who would not otherwise have the opportunity to participate based on financial constraints. Therefore, primary consideration will be given to students with demonstrated financial need based on the FAFSA and the UM financial aid package. The 2010 application deadline is Thursday, February 18, 2010.

Internships: Funding is available for undergraduate students to participate in internships abroad with private companies, government agencies, international organizations or nongovernmental organizations.

Research Projects: The scholarship supports undergraduate students who are doing research abroad as part of their degree program. For the purpose of this award, research is defined as thesis research, participation in an on-going research project as part of a required degree-related work experience, or other independent research toward degree requirements. The research project does not have to be for academic credit.

Spring/Summer Programs: Programs must be affiliated with the University of Michigan and associated with a department or program within the College of LSA. Examples include but not limited to, the Global Intercultural Experience for Undergraduates Program (GIEU), and the Center for Afroamerican and African Studies Spring Study Abroad Course.

Eligibility: Applicants must be enrolled full-time in an LSA degree program, be in good academic standing, and will not graduate before the end of their project, and demonstrate financial need. Eligible internships or research projects must be at least one month long, and constitute at least a 30-hour per week time commitment, exclusive of language training.

Deadline: The application deadline is Thursday, February 18, 2010
