Can these tests be used diagnostically? The MTELP and the MELICET tests are useful in determining students' skill levels in receptive written language (MTELP, MELICET-GCVR) and aural comprehension (MELICET-L). The EPT is used to determine whether students are at elementary, intermediate, or advanced language proficiency levels. These tests can also be used as an external measure to assess the effectiveness of an English language program.
