Professor or GSI office hours

Every Professor and GSI will hold office hours where students can come and ask questions.  This is a great way to get to build relationships with your instructors.

Locations and times should be on your syllabus or will be announced on the first day of class

Science  Learning Center (SLC)

Offers approx. 20 alcoves that are staffed by GSIs for Chem 130, Orgo, and Bio 162.  You can just go and ask questions or listen to others ask questions.  Just  check the schedules by the alcoves to see when a GSI from your course will be there.  This is also the place where you can sign up for chem, bio, or physics study groups that meet based on your availability and are facilitated by an upper-level undergrad.

Language  Resource Center (LRC)

You can purchase or check out cassette tapes that accompany your foreign language textbooks.  You can also  check out computers equipped with foreign language software (including spellcheck!), foreign films and music, foreign language CD-Roms, and reading materials.  There is also some open tutoring available.

Physics Help Room

Place to go if you need help with Physics 125-241.  Staffed by Grad students (and a few professors) who are trained to help students in all introductory physics courses.

Math Lab

Place to go if you need help with math.  Staffed by grad students and undergrad students who are trained to help students from Math 105 all the way to DiffEq.

Sweetland  Writing Center (SWC)

Staffed primarily by professional writing teachers with faculty status.  SWC will help proofread your paper, organize your thoughts, formulate and argument, or help you get started.  Students can make a thirty-minute appointment by phone up to a week in advance or stop by for a walk-in appointment.

Sweetland  Peer Center (SPC) /OWL

The SPC is run by students who will help with you with your paper in the same way that SWC faculty will.  The OWL is an online center that you can submit you paper to in advance and receive feedback.

Peer Academic Advising Office (PAAO)

Come her to make copies of old exams, check out syllabi for course you’re thinking about taking, read reviews of course written by your fellow students, and check out info on grad/professional schools.

ResHall APA

This is the Academic Peer advisor who is assigned to your residence hall.  She’ll have office hours weekly to answer questions about your academic questions and concerns from a student’s perspective

Michigan Learning Communities (MLC)

These include UIR, WISE, LHSP, and MCSP.  If you are a member of one, ask about fee tutoring!

Career  Center

Come here to get hooked up with information on choosing a major, career options, job/internship search strategies, interviewing, applying to graduate and professional schools, and résumé writing.

Comprehensive Studies Program (CSP)

CSP provides a friendly atmosphere where CSP students can meet with faculty, talk with their advisors, obtain useful information about University campus life, and meet with other CSP students.
