Which Test?

Which test is appropriate for our ESL program?

Generally, the EPT is used by schools with an intensive English program to assign students to the appropriate level of an ESL program, and the MTELP, MELICET-GCVR, and MELICET-L are used to determine whether a student's English is adequate for full-time academic work or whether the student needs supplementary ESL work. The latter three test packages are inappropriate for students with only elementary knowledge of English, as they will not necessarily discriminate among those of varying degrees of elementary English ability. The MTELP and the MELICET tests are also valuable as predictors of performance on standardized tests such as the MELAB or TOEFL. Read the individual test profiles for more detailed descriptions.
