Eric Essene's Retirement Party

Eric Essene celebrated his 70th birthday and his retirement at Matthei Botanical Gardens on April 25 with more than a hundred of his close friends. Attendees came from all corners of the US, as well as Australia, and included friends from his home town of Lexington and college days at MIT as wel as ex-students and colleagues from Michigan. The evening started with music and food as people wandered around the plant exhibits and met old friends, and ended with tributes to Eric's own special approach to life from many of his friends, students and colleagues. The Department hosted an open house on the afternoon before the party that featured a trip to see new labs and other features of the building. Not surprisingly, the most popular stop on the trip for many attendees was Eric's office, which was in outstanding form. Slide show link
