Sophomore Honors Award

The Sophomore Honors Award was created to encourage students to take full advantage of the opportunities in the Program and to recognize outstanding achievement during the freshman and sophomore years.

1. Students must obtain a minimum grade point average of 3.7, with no grade below a ā€œCā€ in any course.

2. Students must complete an average of two Honors courses per term during the first four terms (fall/winter) they are at the University of Michigan, including two semesters of Classical Civilization, Great Books, or approved Literature and Ideas substitutes.

3. Students must average 14 credits per term during the first four full terms they are at the University of Michigan.

4. Honors students must apply for the Award after the conclusion of their Sophomore year. Applications are available on this Web site as well as in the Honors office (1330 Mason Hall).

Students are also encouraged to seek out supervised research or small seminar classes where they engage with a reasonably advanced topic.

Please note: The Sophomore Honors Award does not appear on the transcript, per College policy. A letter conferring the award will be sent to your permanent address and will become part of your permanent U of M record.
