GSI OET scores are valid for eighteen months from the date of testing. If a student has spent more than six continuous months in a non-English speaking country or has not held a GSI teaching appointment during that 18-month period, s/he will be required to retake the GSI OET prior to regaining eligibility for an instructional appointment. It is the responsibility of the hiring departments to adhere to and enforce this requirement. Students and/or departments who would like to waive this requirement should contact India Plough (indiac@umich.edu) at the English Language Institute to request a review. Given that individual experiences are unique, the reviews will be done on a case-by-case basis and the combination of experiences that an individual has had using English for communicative purposes will be taken into account.
