LHSP Dance Club

 more » The LHSP Dance Club aims to explore various forms of expression, principles of placement, and rhythmic sequences of movement as a foundation for freedom of expression. The club meets bi-weekly for 1-hour dance workshops. Past dance genres explored include modern, hip-hop, and Latin (merenge and salsa) dance. However, this is not an exclusive list. The structure of the club will largely depend of the members’ interest. Additionally, there will be opportunities for student choreography and student-lead workshops.

Extemporaneous Art Club

 more » The Extemporaneous Art Club welcomes painters, artists, writers, sculptors, photographers, graphic novelists and all other creative students to challenge themselves with new and different forms of thinking, envisioning and creating. At each meeting members will be presented with a new item or idea with which they will be asked to use as inspiration for a piece they will complete for the next meeting. Additionally, students may create a piece outside of their usual medium: writers will create a visual piece of art and artists will use words. This club is for people who are interested in seeing how other artists and creative minds view the world differently.

Photography Club:Digital Photographs and Editing

 more » Maybe you have a great eye for photography, or maybe you have no idea how to layout a picture. Anybody can grab a camera and take a picture, but did you know there are rules of composition a photographer follows that gives a photo a more professional look? We will have workshops on Adobe Photoshop and learn the rules of composition. In addition, we will explore different types of photography such as landscapes, on-location portraits, and action shots to apply our editing skills. Note: Any digital camera can be used. If you don’t have one, there are a few that the LHSP office has available to borrow!

Arts & Literary Journal Club

 more » Arts and Literary Journal: View from the Hill Do you like to read the writing of your peers? Do you enjoy looking at the artwork of others? If so, the LHSP Arts and Literary Journal is the place for you. With submissions in poetry, fiction, nonfiction, photography, and other art mediums, there is an aspect of the journal for everyone. We will be accepting submissions and hosting events within LHSP throughout the year. In the spring, we select the pieces we want to include in the journal and end the year with a festival during which h the selected submitters are notified and a preview of the journal is made available for viewing. Positions include Poetry Editor, Fiction Editor, Nonfiction Editor, Art and Photography Editor, and Marketing Editor. These are not limited to one editor each.

All-LHSP Meeting

more » All-LHSP Meetings. Students must attend four all-LHSP meetings each semester. The Fall 2009 dates are: Sunday, September 13, October 11, November 15, December 13, 4:00-5:00 pm. Please make sure you reserve these dates and times for LHSP community meetings. If you have concerns with these dates, please let us know right away. The Fall 2009 meeting topics will be as follows: • Poet-in-Residence Vievee Francis reading/talk. • Writing Faculty Panel. A panel of writing faculty will read from and discuss their work, talk about how they became writers, and answer questions. • Artist Presentation/Talk (TBA) • Writing and the Arts: Professionalization. How to make e-port folios, write artist’s statements, publish creative work, or fi nd internships in the creative arts.
