About Brenda Imber

Brenda is a Lecturer III at the English Language Institute. She has a BSc in English Language & Literature from Carnegie Mellon University, an MA, an MEd and a PhD in H.A.C.E. from the University of Michigan. Her special areas of interest are advanced professional and instructional communication skills.

At the ELI, Brenda teaches courses in pronunciation and discussion, in writing and grammar, and seminars and practicums for first year GSIs. She is the coordinator for the GSI training for LSA international graduate students, and the GSI training within the Business School’s Teacher Development Program for their doctoral candidates. In the summer, she teaches a Case Studies course in the English for Business Studies program for internationals entering their first year of the UMMBA degree.

In addition to her lectureship at the ELI, Brenda served as president-elect, president, and currently past-president of the Michigan State affiliate of TESOL (MITESOL). She is also the founder of Cross-Cultural Communications (CCC, Inc.), a private consulting company providing training to corporations, law enforcement agencies, health care service providers, and educators.
