About Pamela Bogart

Pamela teaches academic writing, speaking, and listening at the English Language Institute, including courses and a speaking clinic designed for prospective and practicing graduate student instructors (GSIs). Pamela manages the ELI's English Learning Links. In addition, Pamela coordinates winter and summer GSI training programs sponsored by the ELI and CRLT, the Center for Research on Learning and Teaching. Pamela started guest teaching in the ELI's migrant worker tutor-training course at the ELI in 1997. She was also a lecturer in the Romance Languages Department from 2000 to 2003. Before joining the university as a lecturer in 2000, Pamela was executive director of Washtenaw Literacy, an adult ESL and literacy nonprofit educational program. Pamela earned her BA in French at Brown University, and her MA in French at the University of Michigan, where she was a GSI once upon a time. After over ten years teaching ESL and EFL in community and corporate settings, Pamela completed an MA in TESOL at Eastern Michigan University. She has developed ESL tutor training materials in use at many literacy organizations, and she has served as the Workplace/ESP SIG (Special Interest Group) representative for MITESOL; she is currently MITESOL's listserv editor.
