Summer Biomedical and Life Sciences

This program provides opportunities for students to conduct full-time (40 hours per week) biomedical and life sciences research with a University of Michigan faculty member for a 10 week period. In addition to the research activities, summer fellows participate in seminars co-sponsored by the Medical School on such topics as research integrity, clinical and translational research, and funding for graduate school and in monthly journal clubs facilitated by top researchers from the Life Sciences Institute and Medical School.

The Summer Biomedical and Life Sciences Fellowship program seeks to attract a [broadly] diverse student population, which would include women and historically underrepresented students as well as first generation college students and students from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds, with the goal of encouraging diverse students to pursue graduate programs in the biomedical and life sciences.  The overall purpose of the program is to encourage students to consider pursuing graduate work in the biomedical and life sciences field by engaging them in an intensive full-time research experience.

The program is currently supported by grants from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, Genentech, the Towsley Foundation, Amgen Foundation, Johnson and Johnson and private gifts from the Marc and Lori Robinson Fund, Tori and Terry Rosen Fund, and the Janet Neary Fund.
