Global and Ethnic Studies

The faculty and students of the Program question the limits of "national literature" models, both by emphasizing diversities within national entities (local, regional, and ethnic diversities) and by attending to elements that cut across national boundaries. Important faculty in this area include Frieda Ekotto, Kader Konuk, Vassilios Lambropoulos, Christi Anne Merrill, and Anton Shammas. Here the Program also benefits from the resources of the Global Ethnic Literatures Seminar, a humanities and humanistic social science center that supports four faculty and six graduate students fellows each year, sponsors the visits of seven or eight major speakers in areas of global ethnicity, and organizes large conferences and readings of interest to students of globalization and ethnic literatures.
