Preparing for the ECCE

While there is no set course, syllabus, or prescribed program of English language study to be taken in preparation for the ECCE, general English courses at the high-intermediate or advanced levels will be useful to prepare for the ECCE. The test tasks that examinees will have as part of the test are similar to what students do in English courses all over the world. In addition, many different publisers produce study guides for the ECCE. Materials used in preparation for other advanced-level English proficiency tests (ECPE, MELAB, TOEFL, TOEIC) may also be helpful in preparing for the ECCE. Practice tests are available through ELI-UM-authorized test centers. There are practice materials on the ECCE website, as well. Please note that practice tests alone will not prepare someone for the ECCE. The best preparation is through the study and use of the language. There are also free samples of speech on the MICASE website, a majority of which are located in the Sound Files On-Line link. Please note that there are no sample examinations of the ECCE at this location. Although ELI-UM endorses no specific title or publisher, below you can find a partial list of some sources for study materials for the ECCE and other tests of ESL proficiency.
