Yes you will need to do this now that you are at U of M!

Location Noise Level Other
Undergraduate Library (UGLi) Moderate until about 1am; low afterwards. Pretty busy, the basement and science parts of the library are usually less busy; several computing sites available. Open until 5am.
Graduate Library Low Carrels (Stacks) available for those who want to avoid distractions.  Reading room is silent. Open until 2am and if need to go later is connected to the UGLi.
Taubman/Law Libraries Low While these libraries house resources specific to Med or Law students respectively, they are open to everyone, and are quiet.
Michigan Union Reading Room Low Located on the First floor of the Union, this has great ambiance and is a quiet place to study.  Plus you are allowed food and drink.
Michigan Union “Mug” High Hopping atmosphere with free refills and that late night dining snacks available.  Beware you might spend more time chatting with friends that you see than studying.
Coffee Houses Moderate to High Located all over A² you are sure to find one that suites you better.  Chance of getting distracted, but again food is available and some places have wireless.
Michigan League Moderate to High Again you can have food and drink and large round cow tables downstairs with plenty of space for group study.  Downside is it closes at Midnight.
Pierpont Commons Low to Moderate For all you all LSA students this is on North Campus, but it really isn’t that far.  Again food and drink are allowed and the Media Union is close, which is another study locale.
Empty Classrooms Low Many buildings have their rooms unlocked.  You can isolate or hold a study group.  You can have food and drink and plenty of space to spread out.
Residence hall room. High Distractions are everywhere.  Make this your place to come back and relax and hang out and find another place to study.
Residence hall lounges Moderate This is a little better than the room and allows you to be close enough that if you forgot a book you can run back and get it.
