Gloria Wille Bell and Carlos R. Bell Scholarship
During their lifetimes, Gloria Wille Bell and Carlos R. Bell (BSE '44), long-time residents of Gloucester County, Virginia, created a trust fund to provide tuition support to forward the careers of students pursuing degrees in engineering, mathematics, physics, computer science or another related scientific field at the University of Michigan.
Scholarships will be awarded to first-year students entering the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts who are enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in engineering, mathematics, physics, computer science or another related scientific field who meet one of the following geographic criteria:
1) Residents of the Commonwealth of Virginia, with a preference given to residents of the Gloucester, Virginia area;
2) Graduates of the Chicago, Illinois Public School System or the Chicago, Illinois Parochial and Private School System;
3) Graduates of New Trier High School in Winnetka, Illinois;
4)Graduates of the Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy in Aurora,IL;
5)Residents of one of the following counties in the state of Michigan, with a preference given to residents of Washtenaw County and graduates of a public or private school in the Ann Arbor, Michigan area:
Allegan, Barry, Berrien, Branch, Calhoun, Cass, Eaton, Hillsdale, Ingham, Jackson, Kalamazoo, Lenawee, Livingston, Monroe, Oakland, St. Joseph, Van Buren, Washtenaw, Wayne.
The Bell trust will provide scholarship support of $20,000 per year to recipients from the Commonwealth of Virginia, Chicago, and New Trier High School, and $10,000 per year to recipients from the State of Michigan.
Scholarship support is for four years or through graduation, whichever is less, and annual renewal is contingent on satisfactory academic progress.
