Artists at Work Series - Detailed Information:
Presentation by artist Jaq Chartier, in conjunction with the exhibition of her new works "Testing." Jaq Chartier applies pigments, inks, dyes and chemical stains to surfaces and registers how they change over time in response to sunlight. She says: “I’m interested in creating work that is real and direct—not a picture about something, a piece that is the thing itself, a record of what happened right there on the wood panel.”
The visual transformations resulting from this unusual artistic technique—a technique employing time, sun and vibrant colors— results in paintings that preserve the characteristics of organic matter: they never settle down, they keep changing and take on a new appearance each day, as they fade over the years.
