The Museum of Anthropology provides support for student research and educational opportunities. Funds are donated to the Museum for student educational activities and no University appropriations are used for these purposes. Funds are available for enrolled University of Michigan students. Eligible students should contact the Key Administrator in the Museum of Anthropology Office, 4013 Ruthven Museums Building, for detailed information and applications.
Graduate Student Funding
The Museum provides enrolled graduate students a variety of potential funding sources for dissertation research. All graduate students are eligible for the James B. Griffin Fund award. Students who do research in the Eastern United States can apply for the James Bennett Griffin Fellowship. Students working in the Great Lakes can apply for the Linda B. and John R. Halsey Research Award and the Homeopathic Hospital Scholarship for research on Michigan Indians.
Outside the Museum, Michigan students can apply to the Horace H. Rackham School of Graduate Studies, the Department of Anthropology, or the International Institute for research support.
Undergraduate Student Funding
University of Michigan undergraduates can apply for support to assist them in attending field schools, to conduct individual research, to present papers at professional meetings, or to participate on Museum field projects. There are four named endowments for undergraduate students and one for Native Americans to participate on archaeological projects. In addition, Honors students can apply to the Honors Program for thesis assistance.
