Directions and Parking (PDF)

The Museum is located at 1109 Geddes Avenue, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48109.  It is in the Ruthven Museums Building, on the northwest corner of Washtenaw and Geddes Avenues, on  the U-M central campus. 

Parking for persons with disabilities, who have a valid state issued disability parking permit, is located in the parking lot behind the Museum near the ramp to the back door (two hours maximum, $1.40 per hour). Accessible parking for U-M permit holders is also available. 

Directions: From the East on M-14 and the North on US-23

  • Take US-23 South to Exit 45 M-14 West
  • M-14 West to Exit 3 Downtown Ann Arbor; exit ramp feeds onto southbound Main Street
  • Turn left onto Huron Street at light
  • Continue on Huron Street; the road curves to the right and becomes Washtenaw Avenue
  • For Palmer Drive Parking Structure: Turn right onto Palmer Drive to Palmer Drive Parking Structure
  • For Forest Street Parking Structure: Turn right onto Forest Avenue to Forest Avenue Parking Structure

 

Directions: From the West on I-94

  • Take I-94 East to Exit 172 Jackson Road
  • Ramp feeds onto Jackson Road - head East toward downtown Ann Arbor
  • Jackson Road becomes Huron Street
  • Continue on Huron Street; the road curves to right and becomes Washtenaw Avenue
  • For Palmer Drive Parking Structure: Turn right onto Palmer Drive to Palmer Drive Parking Structure
  • For Forest Street Parking Structure: Turn right onto Forest Avenue to Forest Avenue Parking Structure

 

Directions: From the South on US-23

  • Take US-23 North to Exit 37B
  • Ramp feeds onto westbound Washtenaw
  • Continue on Washtenaw to campus, about three miles
  • For Palmer Drive Parking Structure: Turn left onto Palmer Drive to Palmer Drive Parking Structure
  • For Forest Street Parking Structure: Turn left onto South University Avenue, then left onto Forest Avenue to Forest Avenue Parking Structure

 

Directions: From the East on I-94

  • Take Westbound I-94 to Exit 177 State Street
  • Turn right from ramp onto State Street
  • Continue on State Street, about three miles
  • Turn right on North University Avenue
  • For Palmer Drive Parking Structure: Turn left onto Washtenaw Avenue, then left onto Palmer Drive to Palmer Drive Parking Structure
  • For Forest Street Parking Structure: Turn left onto South University Avenue, then left onto Forest Avenue to Forest Avenue Parking Structure

 

Parking

Palmer Drive Public Parking Structure (Monday-Saturday; on Sundays, visitor parking is closed, but faculty/staff parking is free to the public. Park in "blue" permit spaces only, not Gold, Business, or Restricted):

  • Parking rate is $1.40 per hour.
  • From Washtenaw Avenue turn onto Palmer Drive, then turn left at the red and white "Public Parking" sign into Palmer Drive Public Parking Structure.
  • If an attendant is not present, advance toward the gate. It will open.
  • On Sundays, park in the blue staff-faculty parking area at no cost.
  • Take the elevator in South Stairwell to Level P4.  Follow the sidewalk up the hill along the Dental School Building.  The Museum is ahead on the left.  The main entrance is between the statues of the black pumas.
  • On weekends, the Plaza level doors are locked from the outside. To reenter structure, use level P4 door at base of stairs.

Forest Street Public Parking Structure:

  • Parking rate is $1.20 per hour.
  • If exiting the structure onto Church Street, by Pizza House, turn right, cross South University Avenue, and continue to Geddes Avenue.
  • Cross street, turn left, and follow building approximately 100 yards to the Museum entrance, on your right.
  • If exiting the structure onto Forest Street, turn left and proceed to South University Avenue.
  • Cross street, turn left, and continue to Church Street. Turn right and continue to Geddes Avenue. Turn left, follow building approximately 100 yards to the Museum entrance, on your right.

Bus and Group Parking

Bus Parking (PDF)

  • Bus parking is available in marked spots in the lot behind the Museum. Overflow bus parking is on Washington Street in front of the Rackham Building.
  • Scheduled groups in unmarked buses or vans must call ahead 734.764.0480 to arrange for a temporary permit.
  • Unauthorized vehicles parked in bus parking areas will be ticketed. Tickets are written by the City of Ann Arbor. Museum staff are unable to waive tickets.
  • Please shut off bus engines! Exhaust entering the building's air intake system is a serious health concern for building staff and visitors.
  • For everyone's safety, please load and unload your bus in the Museum parking lot. Groups may then walk safely around the building to the front door.
