ID Day!

On Sunday October 6th, a UMMZ task force participated in the 2013 "ID Day", one of two designated Ruthven Museums annual public outreach events. The event centers on members of the general public bearing natural objects (bones, shells fossils etc.) for identification by our talented and knowledgeable graduate student, collection manager and curator volunteers. In the process, they are also introduced to a subsample of specimens from our marvelous research collections.

The event was a smashing success, attracting 656 visitors (a marked increase on last years’ 378) including many young children and their parents. All of the UMMZ’s six divisions were represented – see exemplar photos below – and my profound thanks to all UMMZ personnel who participated. Your enthusiasm and professionalism are inspiring and greatly appreciated.
