Sampling grebe feathers to study mercury contamination.

Marie Perkins

Marie Perkins, a PhD student in the School of Public Health examined Western and Clark's Grebes. She will sample feathers from our large series of these species for an ongoing study of mercury levels in these birds over a broad geographic area and through time. This is part of joint projects with USGS to increase understanding of mercury cycling in western North America. These species have been identified as bioindicator species of interest.
