This semester, UM Undergraduates, Aaron Dalman (left), Peter Rick (right), and Austin Stebbins (not pictured), began measuring mammal specimens as a part of a research project with their mentor, Dr. Geoff Gerstner of the Michigan School of Dentistry. As part of their project, these students have examined specimens from a variety of species found within the UMMZ Mammal Collection to obtain a large portion of their data. In total, they will examine nearly 240 specimens, encompassing most of the diversity within mammals. In this picture, Aaron and Peter examine a hippotamus (Hippopotamus amphibius) skull on the afternoon prior to their Spring Break!!!
