In Spring 2007, UROP celebrated its 19th year helping undergraduate students to discover the world of Research. To date, over 6,000 University of Michigan students have had a research experience through UROP. During this academic year, 1,000 students will collaborate with 550 faculty and research staff. An additional 50 students will be supported in three UROP summer fellowship programs. UROP continues to provide an experiential learning program that offers University of Michigan students a unique academic experience.
The demand for participation in UROP continues to grow each year. The UROP experience currently includes work on a research project with a faculty sponsor, biweekly research seminars with guest speakers; skill building workshops; a career fair, and the annual Spring Research Symposium. UROP sponsored field trips have included tours of the Pfizer drug research center, a tour of Detroit's Heidelberg Project, and attendance at music, dance and theater performances. UROP annually supports students to present their research at national conferences, such as the National Conferences on Undergraduate Research .
