Winter Term 2009 Admission
Because participation in UROP begins in September and runs through April, students are only considered for Winter term admissions on a limited basis. Priority is given to students who were waitlisted for Fall term admissions. Offers of admission are dependent on the availability of projects. Consideration will also be given to students who have already identified a research sponsor but admission will be dependent on space and the student's willingness to commit to all UROP program requirements. Interested students should contact the UROP office in Mid-November for more information.
UROP Eligibility:
All University of Michigan incoming first year and second year students on the Ann Arbor campus are eligible to participate in UROP. Students transferring in to UM, underrepresented students of color and women interested in science are especially encouraged to apply. There are no special prerequisites for admissions consideration. To receive priority consideration, students should apply by the posted application deadlines.
Students must complete an official application to be considered for admission to UROP. For full consideration, you must complete the application carefully and thoroughly! Incomplete applications or misinterpretation of eligibility requirements will affect your admission to the program. Students who fail to comply with admissions dates will jeopardize their application. Before proceeding to the application page, please note the following:
Notification of Admission
All applicants will receive written notification about their admissions status via e-mail and/or by letter sent to the permanent address stated on the application.
Admissions Acceptance
All admitted students to the program MUST complete the electronic UROP Acceptance Form by the deadline indicated in the Admissions notification letter. Failure to notify UROP about your plans to participate in the program may jeopardize your placement. UROP reserves the right to relinquish your unclaimed spot to a waitlisted student.
UROP Waitlist Status
All Waitlisted students need to submit their waitlist form in order to be officially placed on the waitlist. Depending on the amount of research projects available and students who accept their UROP spot, we do accept some students off the waitlist; however, this process may be lengthy and we cannot predict when. Waitlisted students are advised to be prepared to accept an offer of admissions after the start of Fall term.
Late Applications
Applications received after the priority deadline listed for each program will be given careful consideration. Admissions will be made on a rolling basis as space permits.
Spring Summer Admission
UROP does not admit new students and/or offer research placements for students wishing to earn academic credit or work study wages during the Spring and Summer terms.
Spring Summer Research Opportunities
UROP only supports student research efforts through our Summer Fellowship Programs. These programs are student initiated and require completion of an extensive application which is due at the end of January.
Call the UROP Office at 734 615-9000 or contact John Vasquez, Assistant Director of UROP and the Coordinator for Admissions & Recruitment, if you have questions or concerns about the application process.
