For incoming first year students, Michigan Research Scholars (MRC), a UM Living Learning Community, is housed in East Quad Residence Hall and administered jointly by UROP and UM Housing. MRC is composed of approximately 130 students who share a common interest in conducting research. Students apply to participate in MRC through the UM Housing Application.

Students accepted to MRC will live in the East Quad Residence Hall and will have residence hall advisors buddies, and Peer Advisors who have had UROP experience.  All MRC students find research projects through the guidance of the Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program and take the course Introduction to Research (UC 104) in the Fall term of their first year. The purpose of this course is to provide students with an overview of topics related to research.  MRC students also have the opportunity to take special sections of English composition, Calculus I and II, inorganic and organic chemistry and introductory engineering courses.
