UROP sponsors several Summer Fellowship Programs for University of Michigan students seeking an intense research experience in traditional laboratory settings and in the community. A summer fellowship provides students with the chance to undertake and complete individual research projects; learn firsthand about the life of an academic researcher; think about academic and post graduate careers; and develop strong mentor relationships. In many cases students will use the summer to conduct work that forms the basis for an honors thesis or contributes to a published article. All of the summer fellowship programs include weekly seminars and other community- building opportunities for participants and conclude poster presentations at a symposium.

UROP Social Science and Humanities Summer Research Fellowships

This summer, UROP will offer summer research fellowships for students to conduct part-time research in the humanities and social sciences. These fellowships will pay a $1500-$2000 stipend for part-time research work (10-15 hours per week for a 10-12 week period) on an independent research project under the direction of a social science or humanities faculty sponsor. The proposed project should be an independent student project, increase your skills and knowledge of a field, develop your research skills, and help you to explore an area of interest for graduate work. Applicants will be required to write a short research proposal, provide a letter of support from the faculty sponsor, submit a transcript and complete an application.
