Major Project:

• James N. Spuhler Collegiate Professor of Anthropology at the University of Michigan. During the past 30 years, he has conducted fieldwork on the behavior of all five species of apes: gibbons and orangutans in Asia and bonobos, gorillas, and chimpanzees in Africa. Since 1995 he has directed a long-term study of the behavior of chimpanzees living in an unusually large community at Ngogo, Kibale National Park, Uganda. His current research involves studies of male chimpanzee social behavior. He obtained his Ph.D. degree from the University of California, Davis, and conducted postdoctoral research at The Rockefeller University.
