Living Learning Community

Living/learning communities aim to link students with shared interests and to make undergraduate education more convenient, relevant, and interactive. East Quad has been the RC’s home since 1967. All first- and second-year students live in the building, allowing them to study together into early morning, to discuss issues over meals or to hang out with peers with similar interests.

The RC, although sharing many aspects of UM’s 11 other Michigan Learning Communities, carries the principles of living/learning beyond the initial transitional years of college to create an atmosphere of true community learning throughout your entire college journey.

The six languages taught in the RC’s Intensive language program add their own energy to our living-learning community. Students are able to cultivate their new tongue in the hallways, and over lunch or coffee with their professors and fellow students. With art studios open 24-hours a day, theater projects always underway, and any number of music groups and ensembles practicing, East Quad has a character unique in University housing.
