Anna Mester was born in Hungary and immigrated to the United States. She is a Rackham Merit Fellow and Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures. Her dissertation focuses on the struggle for independence in Hispanophone and Lusophone Africa, namely Cabo Verde, Equatorial Guinea and Mozambique. She has taught classes on Equato-Guinean literature and Luso-Brazilian cultures. Prior to coming to Michigan, she earned her B.A. summa cum laude in Romance Languages and Literatures with a minor in Critical Social Thought at Mount Holyoke College. In the future, she hopes to teach critically engaged courses on African cultures and Spanish and Portuguese language.
