  • About

Edward's research centers on media’s roles in shaping cultural identities and relations between the U.S. and Europe. Drawing from over 4,000 primary documents found in American and French archives, Edward's dissertation examines how French and American popular magazines’ regular comparisons of American and French women, respectively, shaped US-French relations after World War II into the mid-1960s. Before coming to the University of Michigan, Edward served as a program manager of exchanges between universities in the U.S., France, and Switzerland at the International Student Exchange Programs (ISEP) in Washington, DC. He also taught English to French high school students for one year under a French Ministry of Education and Fulbright Commission program. Edward has been a recipient of the Rackham Merit Fellowship, a Rackham International Research Award, and the Outstanding Graduate Student Instructor of the Year Award for the Department of Communication Studies (2010-11 Academic Year). He has presented his work at various international conferences and seminars in the U.S. and abroad, and he has recently published in several journals: Media Fields Journal (University of California, Santa Barbara), eCrini (Université de Nantes), Cahiers Remix (Université de Québec à Montréal), and H-Net Journalism.
