  • Description:

This play focuses on the relationship between two young people, a white girl from Indian Village in East Detroit and her neighbor, an African-American boy. They have a friendship in elementary school, then meet again when they are staying out the curfew at the Algiers Motel during the 1967 riot/rebellion. They escape the violence together and meet again as middle aged adults. The play talks about Detroit and the underlying strengths and difficulties the city and it’s residents have faced over time. It is primarily a play about a relationship, and the writing has humor and pathos intermixed.
