We are working to understand the molecular basis of cell-cell interactions that regulate retinal neurogenesis (the formation of neurons) and neuronal specificity (the expression of differentiated cellular features) during development and regeneration. We are using genetic models in zebrafish to investigate the regulation of retinal stem cells and to discover the mechanisms of pattern formation in the cone photoreceptor mosaic.
