    Dr. Daniel Phalen received his Ph.D. in Physics from the University
    of Michigan in 2010 working in High Energy Physics with Professor
    Aaron Pierce. After spending a year as a postdoc at University of
    California - Davis, he moved to Quantres, a hedge-fund based in the
    Bahamas, where he applies the model building skills he learned as a
    graduate student to financial markets. He will discuss steps
    necessary to transfer fields, what to expect from the interview
    process, what skills are transferred and contained in the average
    workday, and the trade offs between the two careers.
