Online Suicide Risk Screening and Intervention with University Students: Steps in Intervention Development
This presentation will describe common steps in intervention development, illustrating these with our NIMH-funded project to develop an online intervention for college students at risk for suicide, Electronic Bridge to Mental Health Services (eBridge). This intervention includes online screening, personalized feedback and optional online counseling delivered in accordance with motivational interviewing principles. Primary outcomes were readiness to seek information or talk with family and friends about mental health treatment, readiness to seek mental health treatment, and actual treatment linkage. This was a three-year project that included finalizing components of the theory-driving intervention, seeking input from and resolving challenges with key stakeholders, conducting feasibility pilots, and conducting a pilot randomized trial. The intervention process and the findings will be discussed.
