  • About

Dr. Sylvester earned a B.A in Cognitive Sciences and Psychology from the University of Virginia and a Ph.D. in Psychology at the University of California at Berkeley. At U-M she served as program evaluation manager for the ADVANCE program and also was a research associate and lecturer in the Psychology Department. Dr. Sylvester also was an adjunct lecturer at Eastern Michigan University in the Department of Educational Leadership, where she developed and taught a master's level course on academic advising.

She has conducted research on memory and attention using functional MRI and has worked with patients with focal brain damage. Ching-Yune has taught courses in cognitive science, psychology, and functional neuroimaging. She has also devoted time working on issues related to women in science and engineering.

She was a member of the Advising Center staff from November of 2004 through January 2010. She played a seminal role in the development of several important projects within SAA. She created and maintained the online advisor handbook, led a committee evaluating the value of advising within the Advising Center, as well as organized and conducted training for academic advisors and summer academic peer advisors.

In her most recent position at CEW, Dr. Sylvester coordinated the Women of Color in the Academy Project (WOCAP) — a retention and networking group for women of color faculty at U-M. While at CEW, she chaired a ten person faculty committee, a role requiring strong leadership and communication skills.
