  Razzi in St. Pauli is a social drama set in the harbor area of Hamburg. Else, a prostitute, lives with her boyfriend Leo, a peaceful bar musician, in St. Pauli. One day, Karl, a thief on the run, finds refuge at Else’s. She is fascinated by the man, and the two soon plan to leave Hamburg together to find a more exciting and happier life. Shot on location and featuring local non-actors as extras, this early German sound film is as much a portrait of its setting as of is its characters. The Nazi government banned the film a year after its release.
