    Research Interests

Mammalian assemblages vary widely in taxonomic diversity and ecological structure along global and regional environmental gradients.  My goals are to document variation in ecological diversity of mammalian faunas over time and space and to evaluate the biological and geohistorical causes of these gradients.  I study geographic variation in modern mammalian faunas in relation to their environmental context and variation over time and among regions for mammalian paleofaunas from the fossil record.  Field work has focused on long Neogene records in the Siwalik sequence of Pakistan and in the Basin and Range Province of western North America.  Additional interests include taphonomy of vertebrate assemblages, especially in fluvial systems, and isotope ecology of modern and fossil mammals.
