  • About

Erik Linstrum works on modern British and European history in a global context, with a focus on the British Empire since 1800. His first book, Making Minds Modern: The Politics of Psychology in the British Empire, explores how innovations in the science of mind — laboratory measurements, psychoanalysis, and mental testing — changed British rule overseas.  He is now beginning work on a study of secrecy in British colonial administration and a history of chemical weapons in the British Empire after 1919.  His research interests include the human sciences, colonial violence, and comparative empires.

    Selected Publications:

"The Politics of Psychology in the British Empire, 1898-1960." Past & Present 215 (2012).
