  • Description:

The plasma panel sensor (PPS) is a novel variant of micropattern gas detectors inspired by operational and fabrication principles common to plasma display panels used in televisions. The PPS is comprised of an array of small plasma discharge cells. The panel is assembled from non-reactive materials such as glass substrates, metal electrodes and mostly inert gas mixtures enclosed in a hermetically sealed unit. The detection of ionizing radiation yields a potentially fast signal, high granularity and spatial resolution. Prototype detectors have been deployed in test beams and lab tested with beta sources and CR muons. The results of these various tests are presented.
