North Quad Artist-Scholar in Residence: Rodney A. Brown; Brown Dance Project
Choreographers design dances for entertainment, among other considerations. Because HIV /AIDS is critical, choreographer researcher Rodney A. Brown involves dance com-position as a form of translation to be used as a theoretical framework through which we can experience the art form of dance differently-for HIV education. Specifically, this project seeks to develop dance material such that a viewer can distinguish some functional differences between Red and White blood cells, dissimilarities of HIV and AIDS, understanding of Stigma, discern four common ways HIV can be transmitted, and understand some fact-based ways to prevent HIV infection. We believe Contemporary Dance can be an effective tool for learning in a more global delivery, to individuals who might be unaware of HIV education knowledge.
