  • About

A New Jersey native, Tara Liss-Mariño graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a BA in Comparative Literature and a BFA in Painting.  After three years in non-profit administration and development, she returned to graduate school, earning an M.A. in Communication from the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania.  She is currently completing her dissertation, which explores the intersection of DIY (do-it-yourself) culture, professional identity, and new media; additional research interests include design and visual culture, consumer culture, and the creative industries.  While at Penn, Tara served as an undergraduate instructor, a teaching fellow, and co-directed Annenberg’s undergraduate thesis seminar.  She also has experience working in residential life and advising student groups.  In her free time, Tara enjoys hiking, cooking, reading, and exploring her new home of Ann Arbor.
