The University of Michigan Sociology Department continues to be recognized for its academic strength nationally in the latest rankings of graduate programs by U.S. News & World Report.

The Sociology Department maintained its top five ranking of sociology graduate programs, tying for #4.  In addition to the main program rankings. U-M was ranked highly in several specialties:

  • #7 in Economic Sociology
  • #3 in Historical Sociology
  • #5 in Sex and Gender
  • #3 in Social Stratification
  • #1 in Sociology of Population

While we recognize the inherent challenges of such rankings, we are gratified that our department's excellence continues to be recognized in a wide range of areas.
