Nov 18, 2013
Susanne Bianchi, one of the foremost sociologists of the family, passed away on November 4th, in Santa Monica, California. Her research focused on the American family, time use and gender equity.
Bianchi received her Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Michigan in 1978, and served in positions at the U.S. Census Bureau and the University of Maryland before joining UCLA in 2009 as the Dorothy Meier Chair in Social Equities and Distinguished Professor of Sociology. She maintained her connection to Michigan's Survey Research Center, serving as a faculty associate starting in 2010 until the end of her career.
The University of Michigan Department of Sociology sends our condolences to Professor Bianchi's colleagues at UCLA and to her husband, children, and family.
