Visual Processing and Social Cognition in the Schizo-Bipolar Spectrum
Cascade models suggest that visual processing impairments in schizophrenia lead to social cognitive deficits, which may adversely affect functioning. However, this has not been explored in the schizo-bipolar spectrum. Thus, the current study examined the relationship between visual processing performance and social cognition in the schizo-bipolar spectrum. While visual processing impairments were observed at both ends of the spectrum, correlations with social cognition were found only in schizophrenia. Moreover, the current study provides evidence for differential visual processing impairments in the schizo-bipolar spectrum. Implications and future directions will be discussed.
